Accomplishments

Through our work at the local and national level, ICP has accomplished the following:

  • Maintained successful partnerships with numerous communities across the country, and stimulated local investment of more than $8 million in financial and in-kind resources to advance their local work;
  • Raised more than $20 million from public and private foundations, corporations and public entities for national and local work to prevent violence;
  • Created and tested a theory of change for local collaboratives and developed a comprehensive framework for addressing all forms of violence within a primary prevention approach;
  • Developed a capacity building program to support local communities and leaders through intensive training, peer support and information dissemination;
  • Sponsored three national Immersion Trainings (one each on collaboration, and resident engagement and mobilization, and sustainability) and engaged over 800 practitioners across the country.
  • Produced a variety of tools, resources and publications, tailored to practitioners, evaluators and grantmakers, including monographs, case studies, tip sheets, CD-ROM training tools, and a web site;
  • Implemented demonstration and research projects and that included an examination of the linkages between multiple forms of violence, and an assessment of how the fields of community building and violence prevention can be better integrated;
  • Commissioned research papers on the media and an exploration of racism, media messaging, and their connections to violence;
  • Convened national meetings of experts on community building and violence prevention to examine crucial issues in violence prevention including the evaluation of comprehensive community-based initiatives; development of effective communications and message development regarding race and violence; and exploration of community-driven strategies to address multiple forms of violence;
  • Sponsored two national conferences for grantmakers in violence prevention that together attracted nearly 500 funders and other experts in violence prevention; and
  • Developed strategic partnerships with national organizations working toward social equity and peace.
